싱커는 팔에 무리가 가장 많이 가는 구질이다. 팔을 역으로 비틀어 던지기 때문에 특히 팔꿈치 부분의 손상이 심하다.
　그러나 싱커는 타자 앞에서 살짝 떨어지는 특성이 있어 투수들이 선호한다. 홈런 등 장타를 절대적으로 피해야 할 위기나, 병살타를 유도해야 할 상황에서 효과적인 구질이다.

　볼을 쥐는 요령은 투심 모양에서 검지쪽에 실밥을 걸리게 하고, 중지는 검지에 붙이는 게 일반적이다.

　욕심이 지나쳐 무리하게 팔꿈치를 틀어서 회전을 주면 부상이 올 수 있기 때문에 신경을 써야 한다.
